ERROR: Line 17 (my @STARTARGS=($0,@ARGV);) in CFG file (/usr/bin/mrtg) does not make sense

I get this error OCCASIONALLY when I start the graph for an HP switch. It does not happen every time I run it but more like 8 times out of 10. I am running Debian 5.x and the cfg file was created using cfgmaker. The instance of mrtg is set to daemonize the cfg with an interval of 5, a workdir of /var/www/html, and the only option specified is growright.

PUlling my hair out here... I have searced the mrtg site, and the web and can find NOTHING. Any assistance is appreciated.

this error shows up when you try to run mrtg with mrtg as it's own configuration file. For support please use the mrtg mailinglist.
